In Support of
Female Artists, Art and Education

A Tribute to Madeleine Andree Matter
"Madreema stands for Madeleine Andree Matter, my late mother born in 1925  in Alsace, France and deceized in 2009. Growing up in rural Alsace on the verge of WWII, she lived the simple life of a housewife and a maid, without access to proper education due to her gender, rural upbringing, and the Nazi occupation. She gave life to three sons, pushed for her children to be educated as she saw only education as a way to progress in society. Even though her understanding of the Arts was minimal, it was central to her that Culture and the Arts be a real part of education. We showed an amazing curiosity and openness for all forms of art."

Andree Matter Award

"Long before the“me-too”world we have moved into, I have always been deeply impressed by women who have been able to be active both as a family head as well as an active working person. So much is always de-facto expected from them. In Arts, this is even impressing me more as more than not there is only a related economic reward attached to the very heavy involvement. Therefore, this price is focused towards female contemporary artists. In the first phase, the geographic focus will be mostly Singapore and Israel."
